There’s something about a wedding morning that holds so much potential.
It sets the tone for everything that follows. The energy, the pace, the atmosphere, it all starts here.
As a Cheshire wedding photographer, I’ve walked into so many beautiful venues like Iscoyd Park, Hawkstone Hall, Capesthorne Hall, Combermere Abbey, Delamere Manor, Soughton Hall and Berwick House on the morning of a wedding.
And honestly, most of the time, it only takes a few small shifts to completely transform how the morning feels… and how it photographs.
These are the things I’d fix in five minutes.
I’m going to say it.
Satin robes are overdone.
They look great in theory, but in reality, I see so many brides and bridesmaids feeling uncomfortable, too warm, and constantly adjusting them.
And they’re not cheap either.
Instead, think about something you’ll actually feel good in.
A set of timeless, well-cut pyjamas, soft cotton, linen, something breathable and relaxed. The M&S summer range last year was perfect for this kind of look.
It photographs beautifully, but more importantly, you feel like yourself.
The biggest shift you can make is the atmosphere in the room.
Silence or low energy in the morning can make everything feel a bit flat. But the second you change the mood, everything lifts.
Put on your favourite playlist. The songs you love, not what you think you should play.
Dance around with your friends. Laugh. Open the windows.
One of my brides even had a string quartet playing throughout the manor on the morning of her wedding, and it completely transformed the space. It felt calm, elevated, and so intentional.
However you do it, create a feeling.
Because that energy carries through your entire day.
This is the quickest visual win.
Suitcases, plastic bags, half-unpacked makeup, empty glasses, it all builds up so quickly.
And it shows in your photos.
Take five minutes to move everything into a corner or a separate room. Keep the space you’re getting ready in as clear and calm as possible.
At venues like Delamere Manor or Berwick House, the rooms are already beautiful. Let them breathe.
You don’t need anything complicated here.
Just be aware of where the best natural light is and stay close to it when you’re getting ready.
Open the curtains. Turn off harsh overhead lights.
It makes such a difference, not just for photos, but for how the whole space feels.
This one is bigger than it sounds.
You don’t need a huge group around you if that’s not your energy.
Keep the space filled with people who make you feel calm, happy, and completely at ease.
That atmosphere is what shapes your morning, far more than any styling detail ever could.
The best wedding mornings aren’t the most styled or perfectly planned.
They’re the ones that feel good.
Calm. Joyful. A little bit chaotic in the best way.
So if you take anything from this, keep it simple.
Shift the energy, clear the space, wear something you love, and let yourself actually experience it.
Because that’s what you’ll remember.
And that’s what will show in your photos.
