There are some weddings that feel particularly special to photograph, and Katie & Will’s wedding at Holesfoot was one of them.

I first met Katie and Will in Edinburgh for their pre-wedding shoot, in the city where they met while studying at university. So when I arrived at Holesfoot on Saturday and saw them surrounded by their favourite people, preparing to get married, it felt like a beautiful full-circle moment.

Their wedding was everything I love about a summer celebration in Holesfoot. Thoughtful, personal and effortlessly beautiful, with soft pastel pinks and greens, parasols scattered throughout the gardens, incredible florals and a little paddle boat making its way across the pond.

And then, as the afternoon turned into evening, the ceilidh began.

For two people whose story started in Scotland, it felt like the perfect way to end the day.

A summer wedding at Holesfoot

Holesfoot is such a beautiful setting for a wedding in the Lake District. There is something about the combination of the house, gardens and surrounding landscape that lends itself so naturally to photographs that feel relaxed and editorial.

Katie and Will's styling worked beautifully with the setting. Their palette of soft pinks and greens brought a subtle sense of colour without competing with the landscape, while parasols dotted throughout the day added a lovely, almost European feel to the celebration.

The floral installation by @seedandwild was one of my favourite details. It felt abundant without being overly formal, bringing together the romantic feel of the day with the natural beauty of Holesfoot.

From Edinburgh to the Holesfoot

One of my favourite things about being a wedding photographer is getting to know a couple's story before their wedding day.

Katie and Will's began in Edinburgh, where they met while studying at university. We photographed their pre-wedding shoot around the city, getting to know each other and spending time in the places that had been part of the beginning of their relationship.

So photographing their wedding felt like more than simply arriving on the day.

I had already seen a little of where their story began, and now I was there for this next chapter.

There was something particularly lovely about that connection running through the day. From the Scottish influence in their story to the ceilidh later that evening, the wedding felt like a celebration of where they had come from as much as where they were going.

The details that made the day

The beauty of a wedding isn't always found in the biggest moments.

For Katie and Will, it was in all the details that came together to create the atmosphere of the day.

Soft pastel flowers. Sunlight across the gardens. Parasols held by guests. Champagne in the sunshine. A little boat on the pond. The incredible floral installation by @seedandwild.

And then the evening changed pace completely.

The ceilidh began and suddenly the dance floor was full.

It was joyful, energetic and completely fitting for a couple who met in Scotland. There is something wonderfully infectious about ceilidh dancing at a wedding. It brings everyone into the celebration, whether they know the steps or are simply trying their best to keep up.

Working alongside @poveyfilmco

One of the other lovely parts of this wedding was getting to work alongside @poveyfilmco

Having the right people around you on a wedding day makes such a difference, and we were a pretty dreamy photographer and videographer team for this one.

From the preparations through to the dancing, the energy was there all day. There was plenty of laughter, plenty of movement and so many moments that deserved to be captured.

It's always a privilege to document a wedding alongside another creative who cares so much about telling the story of the day.

Katie & Will

Katie & Will, thank you.

Thank you for trusting me to photograph such an important day, for welcoming me into your celebration and for allowing me to document this next chapter of your story.

I feel incredibly lucky to have been your photographer.

And even luckier to now call you friends.

Your Holesfoot wedding was such a beautiful reflection of you both, from the Scottish influence woven throughout the day to the flowers, the sunshine, the paddle boat and that brilliant ceilidh.

What a day.

And what a privilege it was to be there.
