An autumn wedding at Askham Hall, complete with wild florals, seasonal styling and a little help from Storm Boelo. Aaron and Charlie's wedding was a celebration of everything wonderful about getting married in autumn, embracing the unpredictable weather and making the most of every moment.

Set in the Cumbrian countryside, Askham Hall is a beautiful setting for a wedding, with its historic character and natural surroundings providing a wonderful backdrop for a celebration that feels both timeless and full of personality. For Aaron and Charlie, the vision was unapologetically autumnal, with an abundance of seasonal details and a relaxed, organic aesthetic that felt perfectly suited to the season.

Of course, the weather had other plans. But if there was one thing that made this wedding so memorable, it was the couple themselves. Nothing was going to dampen their spirits, and their positivity carried through the entire day.

A Wild Autumn Wedding at Askham Hall

Aaron and Charlie wanted their wedding to feel wild, seasonal and full of the textures of autumn. Working with Forage and Foliage, they brought this vision to life with a beautiful combination of foraged foliage, pumpkins, hydrangeas and grapes.

The styling embraced the abundance of the season, with natural shapes and textures taking centre stage. Rather than feeling overly polished, everything felt organic and considered, celebrating the beauty of autumn in all its richness.

The combination of seasonal produce, wild florals and earthy details created an atmosphere that felt warm and inviting. It was a lovely contrast to the wild weather outside, with every detail contributing to a celebration that felt completely at home at Askham Hall.

There is something particularly special about an autumn wedding in the Lake District. The changing landscape, the rich colours and the unpredictability of the weather all add to the atmosphere. Aaron and Charlie's day captured that feeling beautifully.

The Personal Moments That Matter

Beyond the beautiful styling, it was the personal touches that made Aaron and Charlie's wedding feel so special. During the signing of the register, Aaron's dad played guitar, providing the music for the moment. It was such a lovely addition to the ceremony, bringing a deeply personal element to a part of the day that can sometimes pass by quietly.

Having a family member contribute something so meaningful made the moment all the more memorable. It's these details, the ones rooted in family and the relationships that matter most, that give a wedding its own identity. Amid the wild autumn florals and the unpredictable weather, it was a reminder that the heart of the day was always going to be the people sharing it.

Embracing the Elements

Storm Boelo certainly made its presence known. With wind and rain throughout the day, the weather was a reminder that planning a wedding in the North West means being prepared for a little unpredictability.

But Aaron and Charlie were an absolute joy. Their attitude never changed, and they approached the day with the kind of positivity that makes photographing a wedding such a pleasure.

As a documentary wedding photographer, I love the moments that happen naturally, without needing to be directed or perfectly planned. Some of the most memorable photographs come from simply allowing a day to unfold as it will, embracing the unexpected rather than trying to control every detail.

Aaron and Charlie did exactly that. They were there to get married and celebrate with their favourite people, and that remained the focus throughout.

The weather became part of the story rather than something that needed to be overcome. There was something wonderfully fitting about the wild conditions accompanying a wedding styled with such a natural, untamed autumnal feel.

Sparklers, Cake and an Evening to Remember

As the evening approached, the wind finally began to settle, giving everyone the opportunity to head outside together.

After a day of wild weather, stepping outside for sparklers felt particularly special. With everyone gathered around Aaron and Charlie, the sparklers brought a little magic to the evening and created a moment worth remembering.

From there, the celebrations continued with the cake cutting, featuring a beautiful creation by Wren Cake Design, before Aaron and Charlie took to the dance floor for their first dance.

It was the perfect way to bring the day together. After embracing whatever the weather had thrown at them, the couple were able to enjoy those final moments outside with their guests before returning to the warmth of the celebrations.

The evening was a lovely reminder that weddings rarely need to unfold exactly as planned to be wonderful. Sometimes, the unexpected moments become the ones you remember most.

Askham Hall Wedding Photography

Askham Hall is a wonderful setting for couples looking for a wedding venue with historic character and a connection to the Cumbrian countryside. Its distinctive atmosphere lends itself beautifully to celebrations that feel personal, considered and full of character.

For couples planning an autumn wedding at Askham Hall, Aaron and Charlie's day is a reminder not to let the forecast dictate how you feel about your wedding. The weather might change your plans, but it doesn't have to change the experience.

What made this wedding so special wasn't the sunshine or the conditions. It was Aaron and Charlie's attitude towards the day, the thought they had put into every detail and the people who came together to celebrate with them.

As a Lake District wedding photographer, these are the celebrations I love documenting most. Days with personality, atmosphere and room for the unexpected, where the photographs tell the story of what it actually felt like to be there.

Aaron and Charlie, thank you for being such a wonderful reminder that a little wild weather can never take away from a brilliant wedding day.
