There are some weddings that feel as though they belong perfectly to the season they're celebrated in. Liv & Rich's wedding at Askham Hall was one of those days.
With wisteria cascading across the historic walls, sunshine from morning until evening, and flowers spilling from every corner, the entire day felt like a beautiful English garden party brought to life.
As a North West wedding photographer, Askham Hall is always a venue I love returning to, but during wisteria season it becomes something truly special.
A Calm Morning at Askham Hall
The day began with the calmest atmosphere during preparations. There was a sense of ease throughout the morning as everyone gathered at Askham Hall, enjoying the sunshine and the excitement of the day ahead.
One of my favourite details was Liv's bouquet, created by the talented team at @bohoflowers. Tiny strawberries were woven amongst the blooms, a playful detail that would become a subtle theme throughout the celebration.
Every element felt thoughtful without ever feeling overdone, perfectly reflecting Liv and Rich's relaxed approach to the day.
A Village Church Ceremony Surrounded by Flowers
Rather than holding their ceremony at the venue itself, Liv & Rich chose to walk down to the local village church.
The church was filled with foliage and flowers, creating a beautifully romantic setting for their vows. The ceremony felt intimate and heartfelt, surrounded by family, friends, and the soft summer light streaming through the windows.
Afterwards, one of my favourite parts of the day unfolded.
Instead of immediately jumping into transport or formalities, guests simply walked back up to Askham Hall together. The lanes were filled with conversation, laughter, and excitement as everyone made their way back through the village.
These are often the moments I love most as a wedding photographer. Nothing staged, nothing rushed. Just people enjoying being together.
Sunshine, Cricket and Cocktails on the Lawn
Back at Askham Hall, guests gathered outside for drinks and canapés in the sunshine.
The gardens were full of life as conversations flowed and glasses clinked. At one point, an impromptu game of cricket appeared on the lawn, adding to the wonderfully relaxed atmosphere that carried throughout the entire day.
The bridesmaids also deserve a mention. They brought so much warmth, energy and laughter to every part of the celebration and made the day an absolute joy to photograph.
A Barn Filled with Summer Details
The reception space perfectly captured the feeling of nature and summer.
The barn had been transformed into a colourful garden-inspired setting filled with thoughtful personal touches. Hand-printed table signs featured different birds, flower pots were scattered throughout the space, greenery and flowers softened every corner, and strawberries appeared once again within the styling.
One of my favourite details was the collection of personalised coloured napkins, bringing a playful sense of character to each table while complementing the natural palette of the day.
Every element felt personal to Liv & Rich while remaining beautifully elegant.
Dancing Late Into the Night
As the evening began, Liv changed into a second dress before the celebrations moved seamlessly into a lively ceilidh.
The dance floor quickly filled and stayed full for the rest of the evening. Guests of all ages joined in, creating the kind of atmosphere that makes it impossible not to smile while photographing it.
It was the perfect ending to a day that felt joyful from beginning to end.

Liv & Rich's wedding was a wonderful reminder that the most memorable celebrations are often the ones that feel effortless. Beautiful surroundings, thoughtful details, great food, and a couple completely present with the people they love most.

Askham Hall remains one of the most unique wedding venues in the North West, and weddings like Liv & Rich's are exactly why it continues to be one of my favourite places to photograph.
