For so many couples, one of the biggest wedding-day worries isn’t the weather or the cake, it’s the photos.
If the thought of being in front of the camera makes you squirm, you’re so not alone. As a documentary wedding photographer based in Cheshire, I meet camera-shy couples all the time, people who worry they’ll look awkward, forced, or just not like themselves in their photos.
Here’s the good news: you don’t have to be a natural poser or feel “on show” to get wedding photos you love. In fact, the most beautiful images often come when you’re not even thinking about the camera at all.
It’s Totally Normal to Feel Camera-Shy
Let’s start with some reassurance: feeling unsure in front of the camera is incredibly normal. Most of us don’t spend our lives being photographed professionally. Your wedding might be the first time you’ve had a camera pointed at you for hours, and it’s a lot!
But the right photographer (hi!) will never ask you to perform. My approach is rooted in quiet observation, gentle guidance, and making space for real emotion to unfold naturally. I’ll never make you do anything that doesn’t feel true to you.
My Approach: Relaxed, Real, and Totally You
I believe that your photos should reflect how your day felt. The emotion, the energy, the stolen glances and belly laughs, not just how it looked.
Here’s how I help couples feel relaxed and confident:
- Gentle Prompts, Never Posing: Instead of stiff, awkward instructions, I use soft direction that gives you something to do together - walk, talk, hold hands, breathe. These tiny prompts help shift your focus away from the camera and onto each other.
- Quiet Presence: I’m not shouting orders or orchestrating your moments. Most of the day, you’ll forget I’m even there. This allows you to be fully present, and that’s when the magic happens.
- Time to Breathe: I always build in pockets of calm where you can just be together, no pressure, no audience. These moments often become couples’ favourite memories of the day and their most treasured photos.

Pre-Wedding Support Makes All the Difference
Before the day, I’ll spend time getting to know you both - your personalities, your love story, and what you’re most excited (or nervous!) about. Whether it’s a laid-back countryside wedding in Cheshire or a Manor House estate, I’ll tailor my approach to you.
We’ll chat through your timeline, your favourite places, and even your photo “non-negotiables” so nothing feels uncertain. For couples who are especially nervous, we can even plan a relaxed pre-wedding session so you can ease into the experience.
Choosing the Right Photographer = Feeling at Home
If you’re looking for feel comfortable wedding photography in Cheshire, it’s so important to find someone whose energy puts you at ease. You should feel safe, seen, and understood.
That’s why I approach each wedding not as a photo shoot, but as a love story I get to witness, one where you’re not posing, but being.
And if you’re still a little nervous? That’s okay too. I’ll meet you exactly where you are, with warmth, empathy, and zero pressure.
Let’s Make Something Beautiful
